Pictured above are all of the available standard and hi-capacity magazines for the MP5 Electric Air Gun Series.
As you can see externally the MFI and Tokyo Marui are near identical. The only real difference is that the bodies of the Marui are painted metal where the MFI manufactured are straight black or deep gray plastic. Both use identical internal mechanisms as the MFI version is a simple clone of the Marui magazine. This way all MFI made magazines work in all Marui MP5s. Basically if you took 10 minutes to spray paint the MFI mags flat black you could not tell the difference. Great value too as the MFI mags are a fraction of the Marui prices but, perform as well.
Standard magazines for air soft air guns are very similar in function to those of real firearms. Meaning they make use of a follower and spring to assist the pushing up of the BBs into the chamber. Standard mags require the use of a special loading tool (comes with every gun) to load them.
High capacity magazines in air soft terms are all a like. Instead of the use of a spring and follower to force the BBs up into the chamber area there is a special device that makes use of a winding mechanism that scoops up BBs from the bottom of the mag. The advantages are that they load via a trap door so all you do is pour the BBs in and you have at your disposal a larger than normal number of rounds for sustained fire. You will never get 100% of the capacity of the magazine per winding. Instead you get anywhere from 35% to 45% of what ever the magazine's capacity might be. The disadvantage is that this type of magazine is that it needs to be placed in the gun first and then you wind it up by means of a flush mounted wheel at the bottom of the magazine. If you look closely you can see this wheel at the bottom of the hi capacity magazines above.
NOTE: The MP5K PDW Hi Capacity magazine is the one on the far left... It has what looks like 2 - 9mm cartridges on one side for added realism. This makes the magazine useable on one side only so that the right side with the bullets will always be exposed. This will stop the PDW side folding stock from being used in the closed position while using this mag.
Note on MP5A3 and most single shot airsoft guns:
The MP5A3 magazine in particular needs to have more than 10 rounds in it in order for it to feed properly. When there are less than 10 rounds in the mag the gun will not cycle the next round. This is an inherent flaw in the design, which has never been corrected. Single shot magazines will NOT work in electric guns and visa versa.
Most single shot magazines have a pull down follower on one side of the magazine similar to that found on real German Lugers and 22 caliber pistol mags. This does NOT exist on AEG mags.

Note on all air soft magazines:
If a magazine is removed before it is empty 3-4 BBs that were previously in the vacuum up tube waiting to enter the chamber will drop at your feet. This is normal as by removing the magazine the vacuum seal is broken and there is nothing to hold the BBs in the up spout.
