Pictured above is an actual MFI photo of " The Custom MFI Galil SR AIRSOFT ". (Just as MFI supplies to the Professional Motion Picture Industry.) We refer to this weapon as the SR even though there are two SR versions currently used in the Israeli Army. The second and later version uses a redesigned front gas block and black plastic hand guards. We modify the standard Galil ARM airgun much in the same way the early real Galils were modified for Special Israeli Paratroopers.

SPECIAL NOTE ON REALISM: Although this product may look similar to the real thing when compared side by side they are NOT identical. While they may share some of the same cosmetic features / external shape the internal & external mechanisms for actual operation are in fact completely different from the real thing. Of course this is NOT are real weapon nor is it manufactured by IMI (Israeli Military Industries). The real weapon's manufacture has NO relationship to this airsoft product which is styled after the real thing. Thus any mention of or use of trade names is done in reference to the real weapon and NOT the airsoft product. No MFI offered product has any Trademarks or other IPR use on it. We do this to be sure that there is NO CONFUSION IN THE MARKET.

A number of items were removed to accommodate the special applications of the paratroops in particular scenarios. These shorten versions were also use as back up weapons in armored vehicles. The later SR with the plastic hand guards was similarly made and supplied to the Israeli Civilian Defense Units and by leaving off these options it effectively cut the cost of production. Here is a list of removed items:

3. Long barrel
4. Cheek rest
5. Carry handle

This product is no longer state of the art in low volume air guns as it uses an external gas source like an air tank and regulator from paintball or a standard shop compressor. Commonly known as Air Soft this model is select fire (Semi & Full Automatic). That is to say that it is capable of both semi automatic and full automatic fire. The BBs used are the industry standard 6mm plastic type. The required external source of power limits the usefulness of this airgun.

On the other hand because it is using antiquated technology it is easier to modify into a more powerful airgun. Unlike the electric versions which are near impossible to fix or upgrade with out costing and arm and leg the Galil is a very simple on off type of valve system commonly found in spray paint guns. We have had several customers purchase these and modify them for shooting gallery use with velocities of over 1000 fps. Of course these modifications render the gun useless for gaming and make the plastic bbs explode on impact of a hard surface. The modifications entail replacement of the entire internal mechanism with a custom gas set up. We have also had a few customers who have claimed that they bought this model and other electric guns and converted them to 22 caliber shooters. We can only assume these are done by using Ruger 1022 semi-auto rifles.

The Galil SR only scores 90 points out of 100 mostly because it is not a self contained weapon / airgun system. Additionally the external dimensions are not exactly that of the real weapon. The SR and ARM are fashioned after the .223 version but has some of the characteristics of the 308 model. The pistol grip is slightly larger and not exactly the correct shape as the 223. as well as the barrel thickness more resembles the 308 version or heavy barrel model. Granted non-real Galil owners would not likely even notice these minor discrepancies but, in all fairness we must point these out.

In real life the Galil SR (as pictured) is only available to Military and Law Enforcement. There are less than 2000 pre-ban semiautomatic versions here in the USA. These are considered the finest all around rough terrain assault rifle ever made in .223 or 5.56 NATO. When they do appear on the open market they can bring well over $1500.00. The even rarer full automatic brings $6,000.00+. If you are involved in the film industry why risk dangerous and expensive real firearms in the hands of untrained actors?
