Pictured above is an actual photo of " The MFI (Single Shot) L85A1 Air Soft Battle Rifle ". (Just as MFI supplies to the Professional Motion Picture Industry.) This Air Soft Bull Pup is a dimensionally near perfect to the original British Army Standard Rifle. This L85A1 is a low volume air rifle and it is single shot (which means you must pull back on the cocking handle for each and every shot). Commonly known as Air Soft. All plastic hand guards and grips come off just as on the real thing. The weight of the weapon is the only give away (real weapon weighs in at near 10 lbs.) As there are only 5 real L85A1 / SA 80s in the USA finding one for under $15,000.00 is nearly impossible. Even parts sets are unavailable!! Your next best chance to own a piece of British history has arrived. The L85A1 Shoots a 6mm plastic BB.

SPECIAL NOTE ON REALISM: Although this product may look similar to the real thing when compared side by side they are NOT identical. While they may share some of the same cosmetic features / external shape the internal & external mechanisms for actual operation are in fact completely different from the real thing. Of course this is NOT are real weapon nor is it manufactured by Royal Ordnance UK or any British Common Wealth Company. The real weapon's manufacture has NO relationship to this airsoft product which is styled after the real thing. Thus any mention of or use of trade names is done in reference to the real weapon and NOT the airsoft product. No MFI offered product has any Trademarks or other IPR use on it. We do this to be sure that there is NO CONFUSION IN THE MARKET.

Correct right down to the markings of the rifle on the right hand guard "5.56mm L85A1 and NATO stock number."

MFI has had a contract manufacture make a number of improvements over the years to improve performance, reliability as well as more metal parts. There has never been a high enough demand / interest in the market for Tokyo Marui to make this gun in airsoft. Additionally because we continue to make this via contract manufactures means that Marui knows there is already competition from MFI.

The weapon has very good plastic detail and scores as one of the highest single shots we carry. Really correct coloration on the hand guards as well as duel tone gray / black coloration on the receiver and barrel. This is the most common of the two airsoft to be used in films as it is slightly more correct than the electric full auto version.

If this is so good then why does it only score a 91 out of 100? Well we are particular tough in scoring these. There are two area where they fall short... these may not mean much to you but, we still had to account for them and subtract points.

• The SUSAT Scope has either a post or a set of cross hairs painted on clear Plexiglas. The post is somewhat acceptable but, the cross hairs are way out of line. Although we order these with the post in them we do not always get what we order. Likewise we ship out whichever version pops out of the case. This means you the customer have no option in this matter. You get what you get. We do not worry about this as it is better for you to just buy the Electric version's SUSAT scope with the simulated red dot. You can read more about it here. Regardless both of the sighting options are either painted on or marked in with a sharpie by what we are guessing are young / inexperienced labor. Not exactly to our standards but, better than others we have seen and you can always knock them out and replace them with what ever if it really bothers you. We are just trying to be as up front with you as possible. This cause a loss of 4 points.

• The cocking handle is the same as on the Electric L85A1. This is an incorrect size and shape (too tall and too narrow) as the only available live weapon version that the manufactures had was the Cadet Single Shot L85A1 which has a extended cocking mechanism and when this is taken off the real weapon the cocking handle beneath is a different shape than the standard to be able to operate properly. This is the dimensional object they used for the airsoft versions. It is not really that far off... only 4mms wider and 10mms shorter and it would be right on dimensionally. As the owner of MFI has a real SA80 we have to make this note. Any non-owner of a real one might never have noticed. This cause a loss of 3 points. Finally this item could be easily fabricated out of wood, bondo, plastic or metal and use to replace the original less than perfect cocking handle.

NOTE: Any MFI product in the 90 points or better category is going to be very impressive. No one but, no one scores 100... we always at least deduct for the fact that they are not live firing.

As no company wishes or has any plans to make the L85A1 in the future this is your only choice in single shot for the L85A1. If you are looking for a Good Single Shot Rifle, a Prop Gun or Wall Hanger for your collection you should buy this version of the L85A1 as it is just slightly more correct than the electric version. If you need / require select fire capability then you should buy the electric L85A1. Just be sure to read the entire page on that version first.

Both the single shot and electric come with a SUSAT scope. These scopes are entirely plastic. The electric version has a simulated red dot for an aiming mechanism and this can be purchased separately if you wish to switch out your single shot SUSAT with a slightly more high tech version. Click here for price of SUSAT with Red Dot. This is done via a light admitting diode not, a low intensity laser. You get whet you pay for as a real SUSAT scope is $1200.00+. Real laser aim points are $150.00+.

NOTE: SUSAT as mentioned is all plastic. It also can not be readily fitted to another weapon without modification. This means modification to the base of the scope to fill in the empty cavity of the base and modification to your mount to accept the SUSAT duel holes found in the base. Even if you did mount it... it would be more for looks as you could easily knock it off in a skirmish.

All in all a very nice set up. Shoots as well as any other single shot airsoft guns that we sell. The gun has no hop up either… not that this is any big deal anyway with the added power. Just be aware that the hop up did not even exist in the time of it's original production (1990).
