Pictured above is an actual MFI photo of " The Single Shot Contract MP5A3 AIRSOFT ". (Just as MFI supplies to the Professional Motion Picture Industry.) This product is state of the art in low volume air guns. Commonly known as Air Soft this model is single shot only. That is to say that you must physically cock the operating rod before each shot. The BBs used are the industry standard 6mm plastic type.
As the airsoft MP5A3 is a nearly all black gun it would be impossible to distinguish the difference between the Marui and the Contract guns in a photograph. Contract manufacturing is when a company hires an outside and often out of country source to make parts and even an entire product for them. In many cases the contracted manufacture pays for part of the tooling and dies in exchange to be able to make the same product (less the name brand) for their own use or sale. This is very common among all manufactures thought out the world and is commonly referred to as "GENERIC" or "Private Labeling". In most cases there is little difference if any at all between NAME BRAND and GENERIC.
Side by side they are nearly identical as well. These are both made in the same factory (In CHINA); as Marui contracts this entire gun. Only the stock rails are slightly different in color between the two exteriors. Marui has the stock rails painted flat black where the rails of the Contract gun are most often semi gloss black to match the black plastic of the body.
Internally the two are only slightly different. We have the Marui version upgraded with a heavier spring rate which in the past was slightly more powerful than the MFI Contract Gun but now we have an even more powerful spring in the contract gun which edges out the TM MP5A3 by about 25 FPS. Not a huge deal but, one worth mentioning. The Marui has the Hop Up added to it. NOTE: Hop Up is not adjustable. The fit and finish on the TM product is still slightly better in areas for seam fitting and just the general over all appearance. The stock rails are also slightly better on the TM product as well. Thus the price difference between the two is strictly what we pay for them. We pay more for the Marui gun as they are in essence the middleman. We only carry the Marui version as many of our customers are brain washed into believing that Marui is better. In some specific areas they are right. You be the judge.
In either case these airguns have detailed plastic parts but, lack the finished hand painting of the more expensive electric versions. Neither have the select fire switches painted with the appropriate red or white markings. It should also be noted that the right side of the magazine has a pull down tap and channel. (see photo). As you can tell from the photo it is difficult to see as the camera hides this well. This and the fact that the MP5A3 is basically uniform black plastic make it useful as a background prop only for a film. But with a little bondo and painting of different tones of gray and black to look like the real thing the MP5A3 can be used in medium and close ups.
Thus the price and scoring points differences. If you are fixated on having as much power as possible or sold on the "Tokyo Marui" name then buy the Marui gun. If you are mostly interested in this as a prop and do not mind painting these parts yourself and do not mind a standard airsoft gun.
SPECIAL NOTE: As of 11-2003 our CONTRACT MP5A3s come with the new standard magazine. While it has improved coloration and added weight for more realism the manufacture unbeknownst to us did away with the positive magazine bb stop mechanism. This catch lever allowed BBs to be loaded into the magazine and then it would retain the BBs in the mag. Thus this metal lever at the top would not allow the BBs to slip past even if you activated the auto spring retention button on the mag. The new mags lack this added latch and thus if you per-load the mag and turn it upside down the BBs will roll out of the magazine. If you wish to avoid this issue you can tape the top of the magazine where the BBs go in or simply buy our older style spare magazines. Please note that as we do not have 100% control over the manufacturing process for this item so we may or may not be able to get more magazines with the positive bb retention latch on them in the future.

AGAIN THE ABOVE MAGAZINE ISSUE DOES >NOT EFFECT TOKYO MARUI PRODUCT!
In real life the MP5A3 is only available to Military and Law Enforcement. The MP5A3 has served in nearly every NATO allied country's army as well as Special Forces Units. This is truly a workhorse in historical warfare seeing service all over the world by the US and it's allies. Considered one of the best sub-machineguns ever made. A real MP5A3 if you are lucky enough to live in a state where they are legal the cost is near $4500.00 +. Why risk dangerous and expensive real firearms in the hands of untrained actors? Or enjoy relatively safe indoor shooting year round. It is correct in size, feel and very near the real weight making this airgun ideal for training or collecting! What makes this firearm / airgun unique is it's low cost and good molded plastic parts. Although this like most single shot airsoft bb guns is predominantly uniform black plastic it can be quickly transformed with the right tough of paint in areas to be near indistinguishable from the real thing at 2-3 feet away. Being mostly plastic the weight is the most obvious give away. There is plenty of space inside to accommodate lead weights to increase the realism. As an airsoft bb gun this may not be at the top of the list as a whole but, is a great platform to start with. We use many of these single shot air guns as props in television shows and motion pictures.
Single Shot MP5A3 Magazines WITH the positive bb retention latch.
NOTE: SD kit, A4 solid stock and all MP5A5 accessories are designed for the electric versions of the MP5 airsoft series and will not fit with the single shot guns without major fabrication.
